Scott Sissel, JD, CPA, LLM

Scott's practice focuses primarily on estate tax planning and business succession matters (mergers & acquisitions) for ultra-high net worth families, with the majority between $35MM - $500MM+.
 

In addition to his law degree, Scott is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and received his post-doctorate Masters in Taxation (LL.M.) from Northwestern. He is one of only two known estate tax attorneys in the State of Iowa with this additional post-Juris Doctorate (JD) training and the sole attorney in Iowa with material training (5 years) at a Tier 1 (over 1,000 attorney) law firm in a major city (Chicago) primarily representing ultra-high net wealth clients. Scott is licensed to practice law in Iowa, Illinois and South Dakota.
 

Scott is the founder of Sissel Law, PLLC (named for his father, Gary Sissel, who practiced law in the Quad Cities), which is roughly a 20-person law firm located in both Des Moines, Iowa and Chicago, Illinois. Sissel Law, PLLC is focused on representing private clients in the areas of estate tax, business succession and general family office representation.
 

Sissel Law's team of 20 people (10 lawyers and 10 paralegals) has teammates who specialize in:
 

     • estate, income, corporate and generation skipping transfer taxation
    • general counseling for businesses (with a focus on representing sellers of      closely held businesses), related intra-family succession planning as well as   mergers & acquisition (M&A) with private equity, strategic buyers and ESOP's
    • estate administration for deceased persons and related tax matters
    • asset protection for multigenerational wealth
 

Scott’s philosophy is to identify the needs of each family / business that the firm represents and then custom build his team at Sissel Law, PLLC around the needs for such client, similarly to how dedicated family offices are structured.
